Being a mama is hard work – but there’s an app for that. No, seriously – it seems as though there’s an app for absolutely everything nowadays, from fitness apps, to nursing tracker apps, and beyond. Today, I’d like to share with all of you my favorite and must have apps as a mama. These apps make my life as a mom easier, and some of them are just for fun. Here they are in no particular order.
This customizable app allows me to track Little Richi’s growth every time I get him weighed, measured, and have his head measured. I have been using this since he was very tiny to track his growth. It’s so convenient to be able to click on an app and input the info right away while at the doctor’s office so I don’t forget the stats when I get home. There is also a diary for mom, diary for baby (perhaps to type in milestones) and a pocket guide to preemies living the NICU life. It’s an amazing app for all moms of preemie babies and I highly recommend it.
The Wonder Weeks
Even though I’m a mom of 5 kiddos, it’s never easy to remember at what age or stage babies will go through growth spurts or mental leaps. The Wonder Weeks app takes the guesswork out of it for you and lets you know when your baby will possibly be going through a new leap, providing you with tons of info on what to look for and what might happen, as well as what you can do to make it as positive of an experience for everyone as possible. I love this app because as a mom who’s youngest child was 12 before Richi came along, I had literally forgotten most everything when it came to baby development. This app has been a lifesaver and a great memory refresher.
This app is basically a community full of mom’s and moms to be, and serves as a social network much like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Moms share advice, tips, pictures, and are able to ‘rant’ and blow off some steam, as well as get opinions on life situations and baby related questions. It’s a great place to meet new friends and develop long lasting friendships. I have been a part of the community for the past 14 months and I have shared my entire journey with Baby Richi from womb to world with the community. It’s a great app that gives me a fun way to waste some free time and share happy life moments.
LactMed is a must have app for any breastfeeding mama. Simply enter a medication name into the app to see if it is safe to use while breastfeeding. You will get a category rating in terms of safety of thee medication. Ratings range from Category A through D, with A being the safest and D being dangerous to the baby.
Cartwheel is the must have app for any mama who is a fan of Target, such as I. I am actually pretty obsessed and we are there anywhere from 3-4 times a week! We do our grocery shopping and everything else shopping there, as well as utilize their pharmacy. It’s truly our one stop shop. Therefore, it only makes sense that, since we spend so much money there, we should also save some, too. Enter Cartwheel! There are tons of weekly savings to add to the app and it allows you to save as you shop, and scan the barcode on your phone at checkout. Simple, easy savings. I love it!
PBS Kids Video
Anyone who happens to be a PBS Kids fan, such as myself, just has to have the app. The app is full of video clips and full length shows, and has weekly picks as well. There is everything from Curious George, to Peg & Cat (I have grown to really love that show), Wild Kratts, Dinosaur Train, and more. I highly recommend it as something to pass the time for the kids and even the baby while waiting in a checkout line at the store or in the doctor’s office waiting room! Works best if there is a WiFi connection.
Blender Camera allows me to fuse two or more pictures together, and blend them, giving them an artistic look and even professional look, all dependant upon how I go about doing it. I can also create collages and other picture projects on the app, and send them out to family. I love this app because it’s a simple, fun way to edit pictures in a snap.
If you are a WIC recipient, the WIC shopper is a must-have. No more toting around the envelope full of papers and your WIC card if you have this helpful shopping app. It tells you what you have available as far as benefits, and literally gives you a breakdown as to what you have left to get. You can also scan bar codes to check and see if the item you are looking to buy is WIC approved. Tracks spending on your WIC account after every transaction.
This is a great app to have and use if you’re loyal to the Pampers brand. If you only buy the occasional package of Pampers diapers, I wouldn’t bother downloading this app. But if you’re like me and only buy Pampers disposables aside from using cloth diapers, I highly recommend it. You can quickly scan the codes in the packages or manually enter them to rack up your points. Once you rack up enough points for a reward, you can redeem them for whatever reward you want in your point bracket on the Pampers Rewards website. So far, I’ve earned a nursing scarf which you can see here. I’m well on my way to my next reward! Reward items change all the time.
First Words (Papumba)
This is a fun app that teaches baby colors and counting, and has lots of colorful little monsters and cute sounds. I love it and so does Baby Richi. He always tried to eat the monsters, though!
Another must have for car rides, and cleaning days. Spotify isn’t just for adults – on the contrary, there are playlists and albums available for children and even babies! One of my favorite playlists right now is the Baby Lullabies Christmas Album by Hillsong United. It literally has all of Hillsong’s most popular songs in music box form just for baby – and dare I say I love a couple of them more than the real thing?! There’s so much to choose from- and the best part is, it’s free!
This is probably one of my absolute favorite, must have apps of all time – but it is definitely my favorite app as a mother, aside from my YouVersion app. Moms deal with a lot of stress on a daily basis. We all do. At least, I know I do. Daily Calm is a meditation app which has more to offer than any other daily meditation app I have ever seen before. It has loads of video, picture, and sound for mental stimulation, and has so much in terms of helping you to relax. There are different plans to choose from depending upon what you’re currently facing – such as anxiety, depression, fear, etc. And aside from that, there is a new bedtime story feature for adults! I haven’t tried it yet, but I intend on it tonight! Even in my most stressful of times and days, this app has helped me to re-center and relax like nothing else. It has also helped me to overcome my fear of driving over tall bridges in a major way. You have no idea how much that means to me, because I had a severe phobia – and lucky me, nearly every specialist and doctor the baby sees is in the next town over…you guessed it, over the tallest bridge. Yeah. So, this app is amazing. The voice you will hear is so calming, soothing and relaxing…I wish I could just have her with me all the time!
Last but certainly not least, is my YouVersion Bible app. It is my go-to for everything. Every morning, I wake up to the Verse of the Day (VOTD for short) and I love sharing it with my followers on my apps. You can read any verse in the Bible you want to, because it’s all there. And there are many versions of the Bible to choose from. Like the good old fashioned KJV? It’s an option. Like the NIV? They’ve got that, too. Want to join a Bible plan that lets you read and study a specific area to help you through something you’re facing? Yep, they’ve got that, too. It’s also fully customizable with colors, background colors and lighting, and much more.Add friends for a more personal experience.
