How I Keep Such Youthful Skin as a 30 Something Mom: A 10 Point Checklist

Hello ladies, and good morning! I hope you are all having a fantastic day today.

I wanted to come by and talk about something I’ve been questioned about time and time again. I have been told more times than I could ever count that I do not look my age, and people are always wondering how it is I keep such youthful looking skin. It’s so funny when people ask my daughter if I’m her sister – and she’s 15! I suppose there are a few factors at play, and I am going to go into a little bit of detail on them today in this post. If you’re curious and you’re beginning to approach the decade of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and more, pull up a chair and find out what it is makes my 33 year old skin glow and look more beautiful than ever before. Hopefully, you can apply some of these tips and tricks to your own life and, even as a mom, look better than ever before!

Me, at age 33, nearly 34.

Myself again, at age 33. I have to say I do have pretty great skin!

Happy Tuesday – Weekly Update and Ramblings

Good Morning, Everyone!

The sun is rising behind the trees across the canal from my house. There is a pinkish orange hue to the sky, which fades out into a pale yellow hue. There’s not a cloud in sight, and the chirping of what sounds like a million birds echo throughout my street.

#PutThePhoneDown Challenge

Hey Everyone.

I was sitting up before bed last night sort of going over the events from the day as I tend to do, and it dawned on me: I spend entirely too much time on my phone. I actually shook my head at myself because I never wanted to be that person. I realized I need to make some changes, and I would like to start by challenging myself to stay off my phone – unless it rings – for one whole day.

It might sound simple at first thought, but if you really think about it…how many times a day are you on your phone, checking in with Instagram and posting pics, and texting random friends or family just for fun? How many times a day are you checking your e-mail, the news, or spending countless hours lost in the whimsical, magical world of Pinterest?

Yeah, I thought so. I know I’m not the only one.

That is why I’m challenging everyone reading this, along with myself, to make this Thursday, March 16, 2017, Put the Phone Down Day. I’m giving it an extra day rather than doing it today to spread the word about the challenge. Maybe you could share this post with friends and family and we can start a movement. Maybe I encourage just one person to accept the challenge for the greater good of their family. Whatever the case may be, I hope you will join me. Think of all the minutes and hours you waste while sitting on your phone, computer, or tablet. Think of all that time you could be spending with your family, really interacting and paying attention to detail. It makes me sad when I think about how much I might have missed out on in my family’s lives because I’ve innocently sat on my phone, doing whatever and wasting time.

Spread the word! Tag #PutThePhoneDown on all of your social media and link your friends and family to this post. You never know; it could change someone’s life.

Today, I Need Strong Coffee.

I woke up and made a beeline for my Keurig. Medium roast or Dark and bold was the decision I had to make. Normally, I always stick with a bold, dark roast coffee as it suits my palate and I really feel as though it gives you that good kick in the pants you need to start your day and tackle anything life throws as you. But, lately, I’ve been drinking Gevalia’s Medium Roast because it’s so smooth, doesn’t give me an upset stomach, and I can put less ‘stuff’ in it (creamer, sugar, etc) because there is no bitter aspect to be tamed. But this morning was an exception, so I chose Dark Magic with a teaspoon of sugar and a bit of heavy whipping cream as opposed to my normal coffee creamer or milk as per usual.

Yep, bring on the day.

Breast Milk Jewelry: Montague Milk Pearls, a Review

Every  mother who actually enjoys breastfeeding dreads the day that she and her baby will no longer have that special bond or connection. Breastfeeding is, for some, that last tether between mother and child; the last physical connection between you and your baby’s body. It’s the last time you will be able to nurture and feed your child and be all they need. It’s special. It’s what God intended. And, above all, it’s something to be remembered fondly.

For me, breastfeeding has been quite the journey. It hasn’t been easy by any means. This child and I have gone through heaven, hell, and back on our incredible 1+ years worth of breast feeding. Even though he still nurses on demand, which usually equals anywhere from 3-5 times a day now that he’s eating lots of solids, I know that our time as a breastfeeding mama and baby will soon come to a close. I’m not ready, nor do I think I will ever be mentally prepared for the end. But, whenever he’s ready, we will stop. I don’t want to force him to stop, and I don’t want to wean him just yet. I want him to do things in his own time and we will go from there.

With all that being said, I decided since breastfeeding means so much to me, I wanted something beautiful to remember our special time together. That’s why I reached out to Ashley of Montague Milk Pearls to see what she could create for me. She happily agreed to work with me and provide this gorgeous piece of breast milk jewelry for a sponsored review.

Reusable Cloth Menstrual Pads…Say What?! A Hippie Adventure – An Etsy Store

A couple months back, I had stumbled across something I had never heard of before: reusable cloth menstrual pads. At first, I was sort of grossed out. Then I really thought about it. It’s basically the same concept as a cloth diaper, right? And I use those…so what’s so gross about it? I guess for me, it was the blood factor. After reading into it some more, I was convinced that I wanted to give some of these reusable pads a try. I’m not much a fan of tampons anymore in my older years as I used to be, as the risk of TSS scares me to death, so I use pads now anyway. I’ve tried other means such as cups, and they just make a huge mess. I decided it was now or never. After all, what did I have to lose? I might even end up loving them. And if I did, it would be an investment to save money in the long run. That’s always a win! Plus, it would be better for the environment, and better for my body. I was all in!

My Pregnancy/NICU/Richi’s First Year of Life Story – In Video Form

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a fabulous night!

In honor of Richi’s first birthday, I crafted a 40 minute video for the special occasion. I thought it would be a beautiful keepsake for him to have when he’s older.

I would love it if you would be a part of the celebration, even though his birthday was on February 16th, and watch! But viewer beware: not a single soul who’s watched it, that I know of, hasn’t shed a tear or two (or many).

For those of you who want to know the back story, the video will pretty much tell the entire tale. I’m sorry some of the word clips had to speed by so fast; unfortunately, Microsoft changed the Windows Movie Maker and took some of the most amazing features away from the newest version, so now I can’t customize the clips the way I would have liked to – including how long the time frames are.

Anywho, here you all are! Click here to watch! I would love to hear your thoughts in a comment below.

Have a great evening!

Silly Little Love – An Etsy Store Review + GIVEAWAY!

Good Morning, friends!

It’s been a wild couple of weeks, and I haven’t been around nearly as much as I would like due to circumstances beyond my control. But, as you all know, I pop on as often as I possibly can. I am excited to be able to have some free time to write this blog post for all of you, and share with you one of my newest favorite Etsy stores – Silly Little Love.

When I came across the Silly Little Love store, I instantaneously fell in love with the name. It’s cute, catchy, and fun. While browsing around through the products, I fell in love! She has some of the prettiest amber teething necklaces I’ve seen, as well as other products such as silicone teething necklaces, breastfeeding bracelets, and even hazelwood necklaces. I reached out to store owner, Amber, and let her know how much I loved the products.  I was so thrilled when she took the time to respond to my e-mail, and so generously offered to send some products my way to test and review. She is an amazing woman and I just adore her and her products.

When Your Child’s Mental Health Isn’t Healthy

I have seen my share of ups and downs with mental illness over the years. From battling my own demons with things like anxiety and panic disorders, to more severe forms of mental illness, I have seen and experienced first hand the emotional and mental toll these illnesses can have on a person. Since having children of my own, I can honestly say, even though it’s been a difficult ride in dealing with my own issues, there is absolutely nothing harder or more heart breaking than watching your own child suffer.

I fight a daily battle. My 13 year old first born son, whom I love very much – always have, & always will – is currently, and if I’m being honest, has been for many years now – dealing with a lot of mental illness of his own. I won’t go into specifics, but these things that he is dealing with don’t just affect him. In fact, they don’t seem to have much effect on him at all. It’s the rest of us in the household with him who are forced to suffer and who are affected the most. It’s the people he is forced to be around every day both at home and at school who cry, feel pain, and also, feel fear. And I don’t mean that in any sort of mean way, but it’s the absolute truth. We have tried psychiatrists, therapists, counselors, medications, alternative methods, and nothing is working. Nothing at all can quell the immense amounts of stress we all feel in dealing with these issues. So what do we do? What’s the next step? Where do we go from here?
