The Hospital Box: A Review Post

When we have a loved one who is faced with a lengthy hospital stay, or is bed ridden for any extended amount of time, it’s paramount to us as their loved ones to want to see them as happy and as comfortable as humanly possible. It’s not always easy when we have to leave them alone in a lonely hospital bed, or can’t make it to see them due to distance and or crazy work schedules. Sometimes, a simple card is enough – but sometimes, that card just doesn’t seem to cut it. Many times, we want to do more. That’s where this fabulous innovation known as The Hospital Box comes into play.

The Hospital Box is this fantastic new spin on the common care package we have given and received for decades. Remember when you were little and grandma would bake you cookies, bring them by, and they would cheer you right up? Well, think of it that way – except, it’s better than that. It’s more special than just a simple plate of cookies. It’s a memory, a token of love, something that says, “I love you, I care about you, and I want you to feel better soon.”

Did you know that every year, more than 35 million Americans are hospitalized? Neither did I. Now that I do know this, though, I want to be as prepared as possible if the event were to occur where one of my kids, my husband, or my extended family were to find themselves in the Hospital, God Forbid.

You see, this box is made specifically to bring cheer to your loved ones and help carry them through their sick or injured days with hope. Whether they are going through chemotherapy treatments, are bed ridden due to age and health, are injured because of a broken bone or a car accident, are sick with the flu, or even if they have a simple common cold, The Hospital Box can help bring some cheer and happiness.

The Hospital Box comes complete with the following:

  • An easy to assemble sturdy cardboard box
  • A decorative lid
  • 3 special ‘Open When’ bags
  • Bandage/Band-aid stickers and heart stickers which can be used to secure pictures to the box, or just used for decorative purposes

Assembly is super simple, and takes under 5 minutes’ worth of time. You can attach special pictures of your own to the outside and inside of the box to make your loved ones smile. Within the ‘open when’ bags, you can enclose your own special notes, mementos, pictures, chocolate, toys, and keepsakes for them to open at specified times The three bags all have a certain time frame in which to open them. They are:

  • Open when you get this
  • Open when you need a hug
  • Open when you feel bored

You can put one or many things in each bag. Personally, I love the thought of putting many items within the bags as opposed to one item.

This box was created by a woman named Kari when her mother-in-law was admitted to the hospital for knee surgery. She wanted to do something special for her, and then was born The Hospital Box.

You can make this box as detailed or as simple as you’d like to. Find some tips for creating your special box here.
